Location: The Jackson County Health Department operates out of the Community Service Building, which is behind Harris Regional Hospital and off of Hospital Road.

Agency description: Open to the public, the health department operates medical clinics and offers maternity care, an animal shelter, restaurant inspection, and information about children's and environmental health.  It is also a guide to the federal Women Infant Children (WIC) program.  Volunteers may help with any program.

Training required: For positions in the clinic, training is fairly extensive; other jobs require less training.

Time commitment: Some jobs require a commitment from staff and volunteers; the health department appreciates people who come regularly and stay for years.

Skills, experiences, and special requirements: Because of the variety of positions, experience and special requirements vary accordingly.  The health department is open to youth, adult, or senior volunteers.
