Location: Take Hwy 19/23 to Interstate 40 East.  Then turn onto Hwy 74 West and take NC 81.  Turn right onto Swannanoa River Road and drive one half mile.  MANNA is on the right.

Agency description: MANNA provides food to over two hundred agencies in seventeen Western North Carolina counties.  It also offers public education on hunger awareness. Volunteers may help with food drives and information booths, work in the warehouse, or process and sort donated food.  In 1999, enough food was distributed in Western North Carolina through over 350 agency visits to provide 5, 480 meals for hungry people each day, every day of the year.  This represents over 3.5 million pounds of food distributed by MANNA Food Bank in our 17-county area.  MANNA relies heavily on volunteers, individual and group financial assistance, and donations of services and equipment.

Time commitment: MANNA favors repeat volunteers and prefers people who will volunteer for six months or more, but it will accept one-time-only help.  Generally, people donate two to three hours or more a day.

Skills, experiences, and special requirements: Volunteers need to be hardworking and safe but should also have fun.  They must be willing to meet new people and to learn.  Some tasks require heavy lifting, and processing jobs require standing for periods of time.
