Location: The Jackson County Department on Aging is at 23 North Central Avenue in Sylva. After turning right off of Grindstaff Cove Rd. onto East Central Drive, look for the Golden Age Senior Center, a large brown, log-cabin type building. Go to the annex side of the building. Department offices are straight to the back.

Agency description: A multi-service agency, the Department on Aging offers services, programs, opportunities, advocacy, and assistance to persons sixty years or older. Staff members oversee two nutrition sites in Jackson County, one in the Community Services Building in Sylva and other in Cashiers at the Cashiers Senior Center. Monday through Friday a Noon Congregate Meal is served to senior citizens. The Volunteers will come to the Nutrition Site by 11:30am on their designated days. You can request specific days, or the Site Manager can request you to work on specific needed days. Opportunities for Holiday Meal volunteering are also available.

Time commitment: Please volunteer as much as you wish

Skills, experience, and special requirements: Delivery of the hot and cold food items requires a volunteer to do a small amount of light weight lighting, carrying medium to small size thermal carrying cases. Volunteers need to provide their own transportation; they should have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. An orientation time will be provided, enabling the learning of a route and the requirements of being a volunteer. People who get along well with disabled and elderly will be helpful.
