Location: The Special Friends Program is housed in Scotts Creek School.  To find the school, take a left at McDonald's on Skyland Drive, in Sylva; it is four miles ahead, on the right after the sawmill.

Agency description: Patterned after the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, the Special Friends Program assigns a volunteer to a child who is in a grade between second and eight.  The volunteer then visits the child once a week from 3 to 7pm.

Time commitment: Individuals are asked to visit with their child once a week for four hours.

Skills, experiences, and special requirements: Volunteers must enjoy working with young students and should be energetic and creative.  They also need to have their own transportation.
